The K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit Edition is a free collection of codecs and related tools. Codec is short for Compressor-decompressor. Codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video. The very user-friendly installation is fully customizable, which means that you can install only those components that you want.

The K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit Edition contains a couple of 64-bit DirectShow filters. These filters can be used to play the most common types of video files in 64-bit media players. This 64-bit Edition works on the 64-bit Editions of Windows XP, 2003, Vista, 2008 and 7.

64-bit applications can only use 64-bit codecs and filters and 32-bit applications can only use 32-bit codecs and filters, so this 64-bit Edition can only be used together with 64-bit media players. At the moment only a few of those exist, an example is Windows Vista Media Center. Most players are still 32-bit. Even the 64-bit Editions of Windows still use a 32-bit version of Windows Media Player by default. For 32-bit players you should use the normal K-Lite (Mega) Codec Pack. You can have both this 64-bit Edition and the normal 32-bit K-Lite (Mega) Codec Pack installed at the same time. Both will function independently from each other.

* ffdshow:
o ffdshow revision 3054 - ffdshow is a very powerful DirectShow filter that can decode many audio and video formats. It also contains lots of options for manipulation of the audio and video, such as resizing and post-processing. Examples of supported video formats are: DivX, Xvid, MPEG-4, H.264/AVC, VC-1, MPEG-2, FLV1, FLV4, VP3, VP6 and MJPEG. Examples of supported audio formats are: MP3, AAC, AC3, DTS, LPCM, Dolby TrueHD/MLP, E-AC3, Vorbis, MP1, MP2, Nellymoser and IMA ADPCM.

o MP4/3GP/MOV splitter (Gabest) 1.2.1207.0 - For parsing the MP4/3GP/MOV containers (.mp4 .3gp .mov .hdmov files).
o Matroska splitter (Haali Media Splitter) 1.9.63.13 - For parsing the Matroska container (.mkv .mka files).
o Ogg splitter (Haali Media Splitter) 1.9.63.13 - For parsing the Ogg container (.ogm .ogg files).
o MPEG-PS/TS splitter (Haali Media Splitter) 1.9.63.13
o MPEG-PS/TS splitter (Gabest) 1.2.1207.0 - For parsing the MPEG-PS container (.mpeg .mpg .m1v .m2v files) and the MPEG-TS container (.ts .m2ts .m2t .mts files). The Haali MPEG-PS splitter also supports .evo files, but it does not always work properly for regular MPEG files.
o FLV splitter (Gabest) 1.2.1207.0 - For parsing the FLV container (.flv files).
o RealMedia splitter (Gabest) 1.2.1207.0 - For parsing the RealMedia container (.rm .rmvb files).
o CDXA Reader (Gabest) 1.2.1207.0 - For reading VCD, SVCD and XCD discs.

* DirectShow audio decoding filters:
o AC3/DTS/LPCM/MP1/MP2 (AC3Filter) 1.63b - For decoding AC3 and DTS audio. Also decodes DVD audio.

* DirectShow audio parsers:
o AC3/DTS Source (AC3File) 0.7b - Source filter for .ac3 and .dts files.

* DirectShow subtitle filter:
o DirectVobSub (VSFilter) 2.37 - DirectVobSub is a filter for displaying subtitles (ssa/ass, srt and vobsub). Your subtitle file(s) should have the same filename as your video file (for example: MovieName.avi + MovieName.idx + MovieName.sub) and should be in the same folder as your video file. Then the subtitles will automatically be displayed in most players.

* Tools:
o K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool 3.0.1 - With this multi-functional tool you can (1) detect and fix some common problems (2) generate a detailed list of all installed codecs and filters (3) reset settings (4) backup/restore settings (5) manage the installed codecs and filters.
o GraphStudio 0.3.2.0 - GraphStudio is a tool for constructing and analyzing DirectShow filter graphs.
