Bean Sheet is an extensible Java-based spreadsheet platform. Bean Shell sits at its core, an open source Java interpreter. Because Bean Shell has full access to the Java Runtime Environment, the potential of marrying a Java interpreter with the concepts of a spreadsheet application is beyond and different from traditional spreadsheet software.

Each Bean Sheet document can be a powerful application in its own right. Bean Sheet's syntax can be broken up into 2 categories: Java and non-Java syntax.

Bean Sheet's Java syntax is a superset of that of Bean Shell's, which, in turn, is a superset of Java itself.
