HandySaw DS is a software program designed to help people who work with nonlinear editing (NLE) software to speed up the digitalization process. It accomplishes this by detecting scene changes in the source material, which is usually captured as one or several large files, and dividing the initial video into separate scenes. The program offers two methods of scene detection: optical detection and date of shooting. Optical detection analyzes the content of the video file to detect scene changes, while date of shooting uses the time and date of shooting of each frame of video on a tape during recording to search for scenes. HandySaw DS supports many video formats and can work in YUV or RGB color space. It offers a wide range of various ways to represent the information from splitting into scenes, including copying each scene in a separate file using internal routines or by third-party software such as ffmpeg or VirtualDub, as well as generating Final Cut XML, libraries in format PLB and PSQ for Adobe Premiere, EDL files for Sony Vegas and EDUIS, and edition lists in HTML format. In addition, HandySaw DS supports plug-ins of generation of the result, written on script languages, such as JavaScript or VBScript. HandySaw DS also features a powerful tool for manual editing called the Manual Trimmer, which allows users to check the correctness of automatic partitioning, delete unnecessary scenes, cut off any scene, splice two scenes, divide a scene in the defined place on two, give names to scenes, enter comments to scenes, and place the unnumbered markers that will be accessible in Adobe Premiere. Additionally, HandySaw DS can copy each scene in separate file of the same format without recompression using FFmpeg software and supports batch mode processing and a command line interface. Finally, the program can generate reports on splitting a videofile, which can be printed out or saved in sequence of BMP files by means of tool Clip Sheet.
