An Eclipse based designer for JasperReports x64 is something we had in mind for a long time at Jaspersoft. The experience of porting iReport on the NetBeans platform has been a great success (iReport is the #1 plugin for NetBeans IDE). The initial port took almost an year and today, after two years from the first alpha release, with its millions of users iReport represents the best designer for JasperReports x64 .

At the same time JasperReports has improved a lot, and a lot is still to come.

At Jaspersoft x64 we are never satisfied enough, so we decided to create something new and something better. Eclipse is the most widely used Java IDE in the world, so we thought it must be the platform of the new designer.

But in mind we have something more than just a designer. We have in mind a Studio, something able to raise the bar of what we did up to now with iReport.

This first milestone is just the beginning of where we want to go. But our idea of open source is that sharing what we are doing is the best way to reach perfection.
