Note before you download: If you’re using an English version of Windows, you can only install Windows 8.1 Preview from the Windows Store if your OS base language is English (US).

If you don't have recovery media, we recommend that you create a USB recovery drive before you install Windows 8.1 Preview so that you can go back to Windows 8 if you need to.

The Preview release is open to all users, though any machine that isn't running Windows 7 or later will have to perform a fresh install to get it working.
