Mesh Unfolder is a specialised engineering 3D CAD system for importing and unfolding sheet mesh designs for fabrication or manufacture. Surface mesh geometry is imported from DXF, STL, OBJ or WAV files created in a CAD system such as Autocad, then unfolded (i.e. flattened) to produce the best result flat 2D result. The imported mesh is generally a 3D surface. When unfolded it is processed into a 'least tension' 2D pattern shape that evens out the deformation required to form the 2D pattern into the 3D shape. Mesh Unfolder can be used to unfold meshes for many different applications such as sheet metal, inflatables, boat panel, shoes, tents, unholstery, clothes, aerofoils etc. Once imported meshes can be split and edited if required, which is often done for more effective flattening. Alternatively Mesh Unfolder can also be used for simple data conversion, loading the supported file types and exporting DXF which is supported by most CAD systems.
